April 2017 performance results published

Public Transport Victoria today published performance results for April 2017.

  • Metro delivered 92 per cent of services on-time in April.
  • Yarra Trams delivered 80.9 per cent of services on-time in April.
  • V/Line delivered 84.1 per cent of services on-time in April.

Public Transport Victoria Acting Executive Director, Network Service Delivery, Dean Purkis said that despite a number of scheduled improvement works taking place on the network over the Easter school holiday break, overall punctuality in April improved.

“April school holidays saw significant work on a number of major projects aimed at improving our metropolitan and regional networks which together impacted a number of train, tram and bus services.

“These included works to support the ongoing removal of dangerous level crossings, preparation work on the Metro Tunnel and the future introduction of High Capacity Metro Trains, major maintenance on the Geelong and Warrnambool lines, and the CityLink Tulla Widening works,” Mr Purkis said.

“Despite this intensive program of works, our public transport network still helped millions of people enjoy the holiday period, including those attending Run for the Kids, ANZAC Day events and the start of the AFL season.”

Metro exceeded its performance threshold in April once again with punctuality up on March. Yarra Trams also delivered punctuality improvements across most routes in a month which also saw more than 250 extra services for the Anzac Day dawn service.

On V/Line services, the Albury line saw one of the biggest improvements, with punctuality up 25 percentage points following completion of major works and the lifting of several speed restrictions.  Bendigo, Geelong, Seymour and Shepparton lines also recorded their best punctuality results this year.

“Reliability and punctuality on our regional services has improved on almost every line this month.  We have also seen another three of the 48 new VLocity carriages enter service on the regional network.” Mr Purkis said.

Punctuality on the Warrnambool line also improved significantly in April, up from 31 percent to more than 60 per cent, however services continue to be impacted by temporary speed restrictions as V/Line delivers the $10 million upgrade of passive level crossings along this line.

“April has seen a significant improvement on the Warrnambool line as more crossings are completed and more speed restrictions are removed.  Safety has to remain our first priority and we thank passengers for their continuing patience,” said Mr Purkis.

V/Line introduced temporary speed restrictions on passive level crossings along the Warrnambool line as a safety measure after an incident in Pirron Yallock in 2016. Passengers face longer journey times resulting from the ongoing speed restrictions.
