Public Transport Victoria today published performance results for April 2018.

  • Metro delivered 93.2 per cent of services on-time in April
  • Yarra Trams delivered 83.9 per cent of services on-time in April
  • V/Line delivered 86.2 per cent of services on-time in April

PTV CEO Jeroen Weimar said punctuality in April was up across metropolitan and regional services.

“April saw major works to complete two more level crossing removals along the Dandenong corridor, an extended shut down of the Hurstbridge line, and other critical maintenance, signaling and infrastructure work on the network,” said Mr Weimar.

“Against this backdrop, April saw our operators deliver significant performance improvements, on top of extra morning services on Anzac Day to ensure thousands of Victorians could pay their respects at dawn services.”

Metro Trains’ punctuality result of 93.2 per cent was its best since the new contract came into force in late 2017, and above their 92 per cent on-time performance target.

Yarra Trams increased punctuality on all routes in April with the 83.9 per cent network average exceeding their 82 per cent punctuality target and above the 12-month average.

“To manage services around the impact of these major upgrade works and still deliver significant improvements in performance is a win for our passengers,” said Mr Weimar.

On the regional network, V/Line passengers also saw significant improvements in April with network punctuality up more than five percentage points to 86.2 per cent.

The Geelong line recorded its highest on-time performance result in 18 months and the Ballarat line was up more than eight percentage points to 85.4 per cent.

Punctuality improved on almost all lines, with the biggest rise on the Warrnambool line, which recorded its best punctuality result in more than six-and-a-half years, up 18 percentage points to almost 93 per cent.

“There has been a marked improvement in V/Line services in April with punctuality improvements seen on almost every line,” said Mr Weimar.

“We are also seeing the benefits of the recent upgrades to level crossings on the Warrnambool line thanks to the removal of temporary speed restrictions and improved on time running for passengers.”
