Impacts to bus services due to ongoing industrial action

Added: 12 July 2018

Transport Workers Union (TWU) drivers employed by CDC Victoria will take protected industrial action for the second time this week.

The action, in the form of a work stoppage, is set to take place on Friday 13 July, between 2pm and 6pm, which will result in the cancellation of a number of bus services.

Unless a resolution is reached before Friday, all CDC Victoria bus services will be impacted on Friday 13 July between 2pm and 6pm, with impacts likely to extend either side of the period of action.

CDC operates around 17 per cent of Victoria’s bus services.

Train (both metropolitan and regional), tram and other bus services not operated by CDC Victoria, will not be affected by this industrial action and will operate as normal.

CEO of PTV Jeroen Weimar expressed his disappointment in the inability of both parties to resolve the dispute.

“The impact this ongoing industrial action is having on passengers across Victoria is incredibly disappointing,” he said.

“I apologise to our passengers for the inconvenience, and want to make sure they understand that this means most of the buses CDC Victoria operate will have to be cancelled on Friday afternoon because of the action.”

The impact to services will be similar to those felt on Tuesday this week, the first day of industrial action, and very few buses will be able to run on most of the 70 routes operated by CDC Victoria.

As some services may also be impacted either side of the stoppage hours, passengers planning to travel by bus in Ballarat, Geelong and routes in Melbourne’s west and east on Friday are advised to check the PTV website before travelling to see if their bus route is operating.

Mr Weimar said CDC Victoria have informed PTV of their application to the Fair Work Commission for mediation, which is scheduled to take place on Friday morning.

“I urge both parties to achieve an agreeable outcome on Friday to ensure those Victorians who rely on buses are not let down again.”
