March public transport performance results released

Added: 10 April 2015

Ten months since the opening of dedicated regional lines through Melbourne’s west, Ballarat and Bendigo passengers continue to benefit from strong performance results on V/Line trains.

Public transport performance results for March, released today, show V/Line has now met punctuality targets for eight consecutive months on the Ballarat line, and for 10 consecutive months on the Bendigo line.

PTV CEO Mark Wild said the results showed that V/Line was making the most of the new infrastructure between Sunshine and the City, to deliver better services for regional commuters.

“V/Line should be given credit for exceeding targets on these lines for so many months. These are key lines as they provide a significant service to people in Victoria’s growing regional areas.”

Geelong services recorded their highest result since July 2014, with punctuality at 89.4 per cent.

“This is a good outcome for Geelong customers, who can look forward to further improvements when Geelong trains begin using dedicated V/Line tracks scheduled to open in June,” said Mr Wild.

“We are working closely with V/Line in the lead up to the June opening of the Regional Rail Link, and we’re expecting Geelong line punctuality to continue to improve after this time.”

Melbourne’s train operator Metro recorded 92.1 per cent of trains of the time in March.

“We are working closely with Metro to ensure that performance on metropolitan trains continues to improve, and continues to trend upwards over the long term, with a particular focus on continuing to reduce station skipping.”

Mr Wild said Yarra Trams ran 78.0 per cent of services on-time in March.

“Yarra Trams had a very busy month requiring hundreds of extra trams to move large crowds to the Grand Prix, the Cricket World Cup, the Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show and other special events.

“It’s encouraging that in spite of its busy schedule, Yarra Trams still ran 98.9 per cent of all scheduled services in March, which is an increase on February’s results.”

The March performance results are now available on the PTV website.
