May 2017 performance results published

Public Transport Victoria today published performance results for May 2017.
- Metro delivered 90.4 per cent of services on-time in May
- Yarra Trams delivered 79.7 per cent of services on-time in May
- V/Line delivered 82 per cent of services on-time in May.
Public Transport Victoria Acting Executive Director, Network Service Delivery, Laura Lo Bianco-Smith said Metro, Yarra Trams and V/Line have been working to improve services across the network
“On our trams we’ve seen week on week improvement in punctuality throughout May since the introduction of the new timetable indicating that things are moving in the right direction,” said Ms Lo Bianco-Smith.
Punctuality on the tram network improved each week throughout May, against a backdrop of extended disruptions linked to vehicle collisions with trams or overhead wires.
May also saw the start of major work on the new Toorak Road West tram route to support construction of the Metro Tunnel station at Domain.
On V/Line services, trains on the Echuca line resumed running following the completion of a $4.9 million project to install improved train detection at all active level crossings to boost safety for passengers and motorists.
Work also continues on the $10 million upgrade of passive level crossings along the Warrnambool line to further improve safety and restore services to timetable.
V/Line introduced temporary speed restrictions on some passive level crossings along this line as a safety measure after an incident in Pirron Yallock in July 2016 and this continues to impact on punctuality for Warrnambool services.
