May performance results published

Public transport performance results for May 2015, have been published today, with Metro achieving performance targets for the 38th consecutive month, with more than 90 per cent of services on-time, and improved punctuality on the Ballarat and Bendigo lines.

  • Metro has delivered 91.7 per cent of services on-time in May, its 38th consecutive month with more than 90 per cent of services on-time;
  • Metro services altered to run as unplanned express has dropped to 0.1 per cent this month;
  • V/Line has delivered 90.8 per cent of services on-time, four percentage points higher than the same month last year; and
  • Yarra Trams has delivered 80.6 per cent of services on-time.

Public Transport Director of Performance and Contract Management Jeroen Weimar said that improved performance across much of the network was providing customers with an increasingly reliable service.

“Ballarat and Bendigo line passengers continue to experience improved punctuality since the opening of new dedicated V/Line tracks, and it’s only a matter of weeks before Geelong passengers will also start to benefit from the new Regional Rail Link timetable,” Mr Weimar said.

On Sunday 31 May, Minister for Public Transport Jacinta Allan, released the timetables for the much anticipated Regional Rail Link project.

The new timetable adds 200 services every week between Geelong and Melbourne, including trains every 10 minutes in the morning peak and every 20 minutes off-peak on weekdays.

“We are working closely with V/Line in the lead up to the opening of the Regional Rail Link on June 21, and we’re expecting Geelong line punctuality to continue to improve.”

“Yarra Trams delivered good results while also carrying out major track works and upgrades across the network.”

Mr Weimar said that Metro had delivered its 38th consecutive month with more than 90 per cent of services on-time, and was making positive progress in reducing unplanned express-running.

“Of the more than 63,000 Metro services that operated in May, 48 services ran as unplanned express, representing 0.1 per cent of Metro’s daily timetable this month.”
