tramTRACKER boost for multimodal connectivity

Added: 29 December 2015

Transferring from trains to trams is being made easier for thousands of passengers thanks to the installation of tramTRACKER screens at 44 of Melbourne’s train stations.

Yarra Trams and Public Transport Victoria are rolling out 67 large tramTRACKER screens at 44 stations which have a nearby tram connection.

The installation of the screens, which will be completed in January, will provide passengers with more real-time information during their journey.

The screens will display next tram arrival predictions, information about disruptions and special events, and the direction and distance to the nearest tram stop.

“tramTRACKER gives passengers control over their journey, and these new screens will help people complete their trip easily and safely,” said Clément Michel, CEO Yarra Trams.

“We know that passengers appreciate having real-time information before and during their journey, so increasing the amount of real-time information on the network is something that we are continuing to work on in partnership with PTV.”

The roll out of the screens began with Prahran, South Yarra, Jolimont, Brunswick and Jewell with the other 39 stations to have the screens operating in January.

Jeroen Weimar, PTV Executive Director, Performance and Contract Management praised Yarra Trams for an initiative that promotes multimodal connectivity that benefits passengers.

“Many people have at least one connection in their trip and the tramTRACKER screens mean that people can easily see how far away the next tram is when they get off the train.

“PTV will continue to invest in these types of programs to ensure that the public transport network caters for the whole community,” said Mr Weimar.

Train stations that will have the screens installed include:

  • South Yarra
  • Flinders Street
  • Richmond
  • Caulfield
  • Camberwell
  • All stations within the City Loop
