Major disruptions on metropolitan trains
Be sure to plan ahead and allow more time for travel during major works this winter, especially if you’re travelling over the school holiday period.
To avoid delays:
- plan your journey before you travel using our Journey planner
- allow extra travel time
- consider alternatives if you can and travel outside of peak times where possible.

Major disruptions
June
Sunbury line
- Buses replace trains on Sunbury Line between North Melbourne and Sunshine from 1am Saturday 7 June to last service Sunday 8 June.
- Passengers change at Footscray for Williamstown and Werribee lines trains to/from the city from 6am Saturday 21 June to 10pm Saturday 21 June.
- Buses replace trains on the Sunbury Line between North Melbourne and Sunbury on Friday and Saturday nights from 10pm Friday 20 June to 10pm Sunday 22 June.
- Buses replace trains on the Sunbury Line between Watergardens and Sunbury from first service Monday 23 June to last service Sunday 29 June.
- Buses replace trains between North Melbourne and Sunbury from 8:30pm Monday 30 June to last service Monday 30 June.
Werribee and Williamstown lines
- Buses replace trains on Werribee and Williamstown lines between North Melbourne, Werribee and Williamstown from 9pm Friday 13 June to last service Sunday 15 June.
Cranbourne and Pakenham lines
- Passengers change at Caulfield for a Frankston Line train to/from the city from 1am Saturday 7 June to last service Sunday 8 June.
- Buses replace trains on Cranbourne and Pakenham lines between Caulfield and Cranbourne/East Pakenham from 1am Saturday 21 June to 6am Saturday 21 June.
- Passengers change at Caulfield for a Frankston Line train to/from the city from 6am Saturday 21 June and 1am Sunday 22 June.
- Buses replace trains on the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines between Caulfield and Westall from 8:30pm Monday 29 June to last service Monday 30 June.
Frankston line
- Buses replace trains on Frankston Line between Cheltenham and Frankston from 11:30pm Friday 27 June to last service Sunday 29 June.
Stony Point line
- Buses replace trains on Stony Point Line between Frankston and Stony Point from 11:30pm Friday 27 June and last service Sunday 29 June.
July
Werribee and Williamstown lines
- Buses replace trains on Werribee and Williamstown lines between North Melbourne, Werribee and Williamstown from 11pm Friday 4 July to last service Sunday 6 July.
Sunbury line
- Buses replace trains on Sunbury Line between North Melbourne and Sunshine from 11pm Friday 4 July to last service Sunday 6 July.
- Buses replace trains on Sunbury Line between North Melbourne and Sunshine from first service Monday 7 July to last service Sunday 13 July.
- Buses replace trains on the Sunbury Line between Watergardens and Sunbury from 12am Friday 25 July to last service Monday 28 July.
Hurstbridge line
- Buses replace trains on the Hurstbridge Line between Heidelberg Station and Eltham Station from Tuesday 1 July to last service Thursday 24 July.
- Buses replace trains between Parliament, Reservoir and Eltham from 11:30pm Friday 18 July to last service Sunday 20 July.
- Buses replace trains on the Hurstbridge Line between Eltham and Hurstbridge from 11:30pm Friday 25 July to last service Sunday 27 July.
Mernda line
- Buses replace trains between Parliament, Reservoir and Eltham from 11:30pm Friday 18 July to last service Sunday 20 July.
Cranbourne and Pakenham lines

Hurstbridge line
- Buses replace trains on the Hurstbridge line between Parliament and Clifton Hill from 9pm Friday 15 August and last service Sunday 17 August.
Mernda line
- Buses replace trains on the Mernda line between Parliament and Clifton Hill from 9pm Friday 15 August and last service Sunday 17 August.
- Buses replace trains on the Mernda Line between Clifton Hill and Mernda from 11:30pm Friday 29 August to last service Sunday 31 August.
Alamein, Glen Waverley, Belgrave and Lilydale lines
- Buses replace trains on the Alamein, Belgrave and Lilydale lines between the Parliament and Burnley from 9pm Friday 15 August to last service Sunday 17 August.
- Buses replace trains on Glen Waverley line between the Richmond and Darling from 9pm Friday 15 August to last service Sunday 17 August.
Cranbourne and Pakenham lines
- Buses replace trains on Cranbourne and Pakenham lines between Dandenong, Berwick and Cranbourne from 9pm Friday 11 August to 3am Thursday 14 August.
- Buses replace trains on the Pakenham Line between Dandenong , Cranbourne and East Pakenham from 11:30pm Friday 22 August to last service Sunday 24 August.
