William Street tram stop upgrades
We're upgrading two city tram stops on Route 58, to make travelling by tram easier for everyone - including passengers who are vision impaired or using wheelchairs, prams, and other mobility aids.
Stops 5 and 7 on William Street in Melbourne's CBD will be upgraded in late 2019 to improve safety, accessibility, and journey times.
Improving access for all passengers
The two new raised stops will enable everyone to get on and off the tram safely and easily.
We’re doing this because Route 58 is an important link between some of Melbourne's key health, business, and tourist destinations.

What’s happening during construction?
Construction is scheduled for later this year. During this time William Street will be closed in stages as work progresses between Flinders Lane and Dudley Street.
Works may occur 24 hours a day during the construction period, and will include breaking up and removing concrete and tram tracks, laying new tracks and foundations, replacing the road surface, and constructing the new accessible tram stop platforms.
