Connecting Caroline Springs by bus

From Sunday 26 November 2017, upgraded local buses will make it easier for you to travel between Sunshine, Deer Park, Watergardens and Caroline Springs. 

We’re introducing new Route 426 to connect Sunshine and the Caroline Springs Town Centre, and making minor changes to routes 456 and 461 to increase network coverage. There will also be new timetables for six routes, to give you more travel options and better connections with trains.

What’s changing in my area?

  • Route 215 will run more often on weekend afternoons between Caroline Springs and Highpoint. 
  • Route 216 will be shortened to travel between Sunshine Station and Brighton Beach only.
  • Route 420 will run every 20 minutes during the day on Sundays.
  • New route 426 will travel between the Caroline Springs Town Centre and Sunshine via Ballarat Road, replacing route 216 in this corridor.
  • Route 456 will travel along Neale and Hopkins Roads for all trips and no longer operate along Caroline Springs Boulevard. There will also be earlier buses on weekdays and Saturdays.
  • Route 461 will travel along Holland Way to make it easier for people west of Caroline Springs Boulevard to catch the bus.
  • Route 462 will run more often during peak times.

Routes 426 and 456 combined frequent service, Burnside – Sunshine via Ballarat Road

Routes 426 and 456 will together provide a frequent service with long operating hours between Rockbank Middle Road Burnside and Sunshine Station via Ballarat Road and Albion Station. The combined service will operate every 10 minutes in peak periods, and every 20 minutes during the day, seven days a week.

A 20 minute service will continue until around 8:30pm weeknights. Later evening services will operate every 30 minutes. Buses in this corridor will operate approximately 5am to 12:30am weekdays and Saturdays, and 7am to midnight Sundays.

How can I connect to trains?

  • Before 3pm: buses towards Sunshine will be coordinated with trains to the city at Albion Station
  • Between 3pm and 7pm: buses from Sunshine will be coordinated with trains from the city at Albion Station
  • After 7pm: buses from Sunshine will be coordinated with trains from the city at Sunshine Station.

Route 215 Caroline Springs to Highpoint Shopping Centre

Buses will run every 60 minutes on weekend afternoons. Some existing short trips between Caroline Springs Town Centre and Burnside will be withdrawn due to low patronage, however route 426 will provide a new travel option in this area.

Route 216 Sunshine Station to Brighton Beach

Route 216 Sunshine Station to Brighton Beach

This will be shortened to run between Sunshine Station and Brighton Beach only, and run at the same frequency as now. Route 426 will replace route 216 west of Sunshine, connecting Caroline Springs Town Centre and Sunshine.

Route 420 Watergardens to Sunshine via Deer Park

Route 420 Watergardens to Sunshine via Deer Park

We’ve added more services during the day on Sundays. Buses will now run every 20 minutes during the day, all week, between Watergardens, Deer Park and Sunshine.

We’ve also added an earlier trip from Brimbank Shopping Centre to Sunshine Station each day of the week, arriving at 5:59am weekdays, 6:35am Saturdays, and 7:54am Sundays.

Route 426 Caroline Springs Town Centre to Sunshine

Route 426 Caroline Springs Town Centre to Sunshine

This is a new route that will give customers better connections to trains on the Sunbury Line, and connect Caroline Springs Town Centre with Albion and Sunshine stations.

Passengers on Route 426 can change to trains at Albion Station, or bus routes 216, 219, 220 or 410 at Sunshine to continue their journey towards Footscray and the city.

Route 426 will operate every 10 to 20 minutes in peak periods, every 40 minutes during the day, with services until after midnight, seven days a week. Routes 426 and 456 will provide a high frequency corridor along Ballarat Road (refer further details above).

When a new bridge on Westwood Drive across Kororoit Creek opens (expected 2018), route 426 will operate via Westwood Drive in Burnside Heights. Route 426 will deviate (without stopping) between Rockbank Middle Road and Caroline Springs Town Centre before the bridge opens.

Route 456 Melton to Sunshine via Caroline Springs south

Route 456 Melton to Sunshine via Caroline Springs south

This route will travel along Neale and Hopkins Roads instead of Caroline Springs Boulevard, making it easier for residents in south west Caroline Springs to catch the bus. There will also be earlier buses on weekdays and Saturdays.

Routes 426 and 456 will provide a high frequency corridor along Ballarat Road (refer further details above).

Route 461 Caroline Springs to Watergardens

Route 461 Caroline Springs to Watergardens

To improve access to bus services for residents in western Caroline Springs, Route 461 will now travel along College Street, Holland Way and Botanical Drive, instead of Caroline Springs Boulevard.

Please note: Bus stops on Taylors Road between Lindley Avenue and Lawson Way will no longer be served by bus Route 461.

Route 462 will run every 45 minutes during peak times, instead of every 60 minutes.

New stops will be added in Burnside Heights and western Caroline Springs to make it easier to access buses.
