Getting to and from the Grand Final Parade
Getting to and from the AFL Grand Final Parade – Friday 27th September 2024
With extra train and tram services scheduled, public transport is the best way to get to the AFL Grand Final Parade on Friday 27 September.
The Parade begins at 10:30am from Melbourne Park, travelling via Birrarung Marr to Yarra Park for the presentations which conclude at 12pm.
The AFL Footy Festival at Yarra Park will be open from 9am to 10pm on Friday 27 September.
Public Transport will be running to a public holiday timetable on Grand Final Eve, Friday 27 September.
MCG Precinct
Please note there will be road closures around the MCG and Yarra Park Precinct on Grand Final Parade Day.
Road closures for the parade include:
- Batman Avenue (between Flinders Street & Olympic Blvd from 8am to 3:30pm)
- Jolimont Street from 8am to 2pm
- Jolimont Terrace from 8am to 2pm
- Vale Street from 8am to 5pm
- Brunton Avenue from 8am to 3:30pm
There will be no public parking at the MCG and limited parking in the area.

From first service Wednesday 25 September to last service Saturday 28 September (inclusive), the Free Tram Zone will be extended from the city to the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). The additional stops included in the Extended Free Tram Zone are:

Getting to and from Melbourne Park
Route 70
- Extra Trams will operate between Flinders Street / Elizabeth Street (Stop 4) and Stop 7C MCG/John Cain Arena.
Getting to and from Yarra Park
Route 75
- Extra Trams will operate between Flinders Street / Elizabeth Street (Stop 4) and Stop 11 Jolimont Station/ Wellington Parade
Route 48
- Trams will operate between Southern Cross Station/ Spenser Street (Stop 1) and Stop 12 Simpson Street/ Wellington Parade.
Metropolitan bus
Customers can catch the following buses close to the MCG:
Regional train and coach
V/Line trains will run to a Saturday timetable and scheduled coach services will run to a Saturday timetable. Passengers can connect with metropolitan train and tram services at Southern Cross Station.
