ANZAC Day: Thursday 25 April 2019

ANZAC Day is a time we come together to remember and honour the Australians and New Zealanders who served in military operations.

A number of events are being held throughout Melbourne and Victoria to commemorate ANZAC Day on Thursday 25 April 2019.

To assist you in finding the information you need, please refer to the list below:

Public Holiday Timetables

Metropolitan train icon Metropolitan train

Services will run to a Saturday timetable. 

Plan your journey using Journey Planner or view timetables.

Metropolitan tram icon Metropolitan tram

Trams will operate to a Saturday frequency, with the last tram one hour earlier than the usual Saturday timetable.

Times may differ slightly from the normal Saturday timetable.

City Circle (Route 35) and Route 30 trams won't run until 2pm.

Free travel during ANZAC Day commemoration activities 

Veterans and War Widows can travel for free on Victoria’s public transport network on 24, 25 and 26 April, to help them attend ANZAC Day commemoration activities.

Free travel is also extended to Australian Defence Force members, Scouts and Guides and school students on ANZAC Day, Thursday 25 April.

Veterans and War Widows simply need to travel with one of the below forms of identification:

  • Wear their uniform
  • Wear their service medals
  • Wear an ex-service association or returned from active service or war widows badge
  • Present their DVA Gold or White card
  • Present their Category “V’’ Victorian Public Transport Concession Card

Veterans and war widows travelling with one of the above forms of identification on these days do not need to carry a valid ticket.

Australian Defence Force members, Scouts and Guides and school students must wear their uniform on ANZAC Day to be eligible for free travel.

Travelling to the ANZAC Day Dawn Service at the Shrine of Remembrance 

The 2019 Shrine Dawn Service will be held from 6am to 6.30am on Thursday 25 April at the Shrine of Remembrance.

Passengers wishing to attend the 2019 Shrine Dawn Service can do so in the following ways:

There will be no additional services for regional train services to and from Melbourne.

Service disruptions during ANZAC Day

There will be multiple service disruptions throughout Melbourne and Victoria on Thursday 25 April 2019, due to ANZAC Day commemoration activities.

PTV Free Dawn Service Bus Shuttle

Free buses will run between selected RSLs and the suburbs to the Shrine of Remembrance for the Dawn Service on Thursday 25 April 2019. This service is available to all members of the public.

All buses will arrive at the Shrine by 5.45am.

Following the Dawn Service and Gunfire Breakfast, all buses will depart the Shrine at 7.30am, 7.45am and 8am, from the drop-off location in Birdwood Avenue.

Please note: the public transport call centre will be open from midnight on Thursday 25 April 2018.

  • Mitcham via Blackburn, Box Hill and Balwyn
  • Mordialloc via Mentone and Sandringham
  • Templestowe via West Heidelberg

  • Wantirna via Scoresby, Glen Waverley and Mt Waverley
