Public transport for White Night Reimagined: Thursday 22 August to Saturday 24 August 2019

White Night Reimagined 2019

This year we're helping you get to and from White Night Reimagined by running additional services across three nights.

Join in White Night Reimagined across three consecutive nights:

  • Thursday 22 August 2019, 7pm to midnight
  • Friday 23 August 2019, 7pm to midnight
  • Saturday 24 August 2019, 7pm to 2am

Public transport won't be free during White Night Reimagined. Make sure you're travelling with a valid myki.

Getting to and from the CBD

Thursday

Additional services depart the city from 9pm until last service across the network.

No additional services operate after the final weekday timetabled service.

Friday

Additional services depart the city from 9pm until 1am, then Night Network services operate all night.

Saturday

On Saturday the City Loop remains open until the end of the event program. You can access the White Night precincts from any of the City Loop stations.

If you're travelling to Carlton Gardens, get off at Melbourne Central Station to avoid congestion.

If you're travelling to Treasury Gardens, Birrarung Marr and National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), get off at Flinders Street Station.

From 7pm to midnight on Saturday, there'll be a one-way system at Flinders Street Station, giving priority to passengers exiting the station. Degraves Street and Elizabeth Street subways will have a two-way operation as normal all night.

  • From 7pm to 1am, trains run every 15 to 20 minutes on all lines.
  • From 1am to 3am, trains run every 30 minutes on all lines.

On Friday and Saturday, Night Trains will run every 60 minutes on all lines, except Stony Point and Flemington Racecourse.

Thursday and Friday

In addition to the regular tram timetable on Thursday and Friday night:

  • Trams along Collins Street and Bourke Street run every 15 minutes from 6.30pm to midnight.
  • Trams along Latrobe Street run every 15 minutes from 8pm to midnight.
  • Route 48 trams divert via Victoria Street to Collins Street from 6.30pm until last tram. Route 48a trams operate a shuttle between Simpson Street and Kew from 6.30pm until midnight
  • Route 35 (City Circle) trams operate to a 30-minute frequency from 6.30pm to last tram, running in a horseshoe between Flinders Street/Elizabeth Street, Docklands District and Stop 10 Nicholson Street/Victoria Parade.

Saturday

Due to road closures in the CBD from 5pm to 2.30am:

  • Route 1, 3a, 5, 6, 16, 64, 67 and 72 trams do not operate between Stop 14 (Arts Precinct/St Kilda Road) and Stop 11 (City Square/Swanston Street) 
    • Route 1, 3a, 16 and 64 trams will divert via Park Street and Sturt Street and terminate at Stop 17 (Sturt Street/Southbank Boulevard)
    • Route 5, 6, 16 and 72 will terminate at Stop 14 (Arts Precinct/St Kilda Road)
  • Route 70 does not operate between Stop 7B (Rod Laver Arena/Melbourne Park) and Stop 4 (Elizabeth Street/Flinders Street)
  • Route 75 does not operate between Stop 13 (Simpson Street/Wellington Parade) and Stop 4 (Elizabeth Street/Flinders Street)
  • Route 48 diverts via Victoria Street from 6.30pm until 2.30am. Route 48 operates a shuttle between Kew Depot and Simpson Street from 6.30pm to 2.30am

Other changes:

  • Route 11, 12 and 30 trams extend services until 2.30am
  • City Circle (Route 35) trams do not operate from 6.30pm to last service
  • Trams along Collins Street and Bourke Street run every 10 to 20 minutes from 6.30pm to 2.30am
  • Trams along La Trobe Street run every 15 to 20 minutes from 6.30pm to 2.30am
  • Trams along Flinders Street (from Docklands to Stop 4 Flinders Street/Elizabeth Street only) run every 10 to 20 minutes from 6.30pm to 3am
  • Trams along Swanston Street run every 15 to 20 minutes from 5pm to 2.30am.

Passengers with accessibility requirements please note: low-floor trams operate on Saturday night, but due to road closures and stop changes, some accessible stops will not be available. Plan ahead for your journey.

 Night Tram

On Friday and Saturday night, Night Trams run every 30 minutes on routes 19, 67, 75, 86, 96 and 109. Please note that due to road closures in the CBD, there'll be some disruptions to these services. See 'Metropolitan tram' above for details.

Metropolitan buses run to their normal timetable on Thursday and Friday.

Due to road closures from 5.30pm on Saturday until first bus on Sunday morning, Route 302, 304, 305, 905, 906, 907 and 908 buses won't service the following stops:

  • Victoria Parade/Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (to City)
  • Victoria Parade/St Vincent's Hospital (from City)

Please note: Routes 402 and 684 will still service the stop at Victoria Parade/St Vincent's Hospital as normal.

Bus stop closures for White Night

Night Buses run to their normal timetable on Friday night.

Due to road closures in the CBD on Saturday night, Night Buses won't service the following bus stops:

  • Bond Street/Flinders Street
  • St Paul’s Cathedral/Flinders Street
  • Russell Street/Collins Street

The nearest available Night Network bus stops are Lonsdale Street/Melbourne Central and Lonsdale Street/Elizabeth Street.

Regional trains run to a normal timetable. No additional services operate.

Night Coach icon Night Coach

On Friday and Saturday night, passengers in Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong, Seymour and Traralgon can catch Night Coach services from Melbourne.

  • Bendigo Night Coaches depart at 1.05am and 2.05am
  • Ballarat Night Coaches depart at 1.10am and 2.10am
  • Seymour and Traralgon Nigh Coaches depart at 2am
  • Geelong Night Coaches depart at 2.15am
  • Night Coach services depart from Southern Cross Coach Terminal

Safety

We're working together with Victoria Police, Metro Trains and Yarra Trams to provide a safe environment on the public transport system during White Night Reimagined.

Large crowds are expected during the peak time of the event. We encourage you to consider arriving and leaving outside of the following peak times:

  • Thursday 9.45pm to 10.30pm (due to the Boomers vs USA basketball game at Marvel Stadium). Please note that no additional services operate on Thursday after the final regular timetabled weekday service
  • Friday 10.45pm to 11.30pm (due to an AFL match at the MCG)
  • Saturday (7pm to 11pm).

myki

Public transport will run all night on Friday and Saturday, but it won't be free.

To avoid queuing on the night, top up your myki in advance or set Auto Top Up so you never need to top up again.

App and social media

Plan a journey, get real time departure information, view network maps, find a myki retail outlet and more via the free PTV mobile app.
