Public transport for The Builders Union Picnic: Monday 2 December 2024

The Builders Union Picnic will be held at the Melbourne Showgrounds this Monday 2nd December 2024! This year, we’re thrilled to celebrate with union members and families across Victoria, with picnics held at locations statewide! Our main metropolitan event will take place at the Melbourne Showgrounds. Public transport is your best way to enjoy it, with extra services to help you get to and from the Melbourne Showgrounds on 2nd December 2024. 

The event will run from 8.30am to 3pm

Getting to Melbourne Showgrounds 

Extra Trains will depart from Flinders Street (Platforms 8/9), stopping at Southern Cross (Platform 14) and North Melbourne (Platform 6), then run to the Showgrounds (Platform 1). 

Trains will depart Flinders Street approximately as follows:

  • From 8:56am until 9:54am, every 20 minutes. 
  • From 9:55am until 1:30pm, every 40 minutes. 
  • From 1:30pm until 2:39pm, every 20 minutes 

Departing from Melbourne Showgrounds 

Extra Trains will depart from Melbourne Showgrounds (Platform 1), stopping at North Melbourne (Platform 5) and Southern Cross (Platform 13), then run to Flinders Street (Platform 8/9). 

Trains will depart Melbourne Showgrounds approximately as follows: 

  • From 9:16am until 10:13am, every 20 minutes. 
  • From 10:14am until 1:33pm, every 40 minutes. 
  • From 1:34pm until 3:15pm, every 20 minutes.

The last train from the Showgrounds will depart at approximately 3:15pm.

Route 57 

  • Trams will operate from Stop 01 Flinders Street / Elizabeth Street and Stop 32 Sandown Road/ Epsom Road via Flemington Road

The following bus route travels close to the Showgrounds: 

  • Route 472 (Williamstown to Moonee Ponds via Footscray)

Getting to the Melbourne Showgrounds 

Passengers arriving at North Melbourne and Southern Cross stations are advised to change trains and catch a Melbourne Showgrounds service.

Leaving the Melbourne Showgrounds  

Passengers are advised to catch any train from Melbourne Showgrounds and alight at Southern Cross or North Melbourne stations and change to a regional train.
