Public transport performance results released for January 2015

The latest public transport performance results have been released, showing V/Line and Metro delivered record-breaking on-time results in January.

  • V/Line has delivered 91.4 per cent of services on-time in January, its best result in any month since April 2004.
  • Metro has delivered 93.7 per cent of services on-time, its best January performance since 2005.
  • Yarra Trams has delivered 83.7 per cent of services on-time in January, the first month of the new Free Tram Zone.

Public Transport CEO Mark Wild said the results were great news for public transport customers.

“It’s fantastic that we’re seeing public transport punctuality continue to improve,” Mr Wild said.

“With more trains and trams running on-time, customers can enjoy more reliable services that get them where they need to go, on time.”

Mr Wild congratulated V/Line on its improved on-time performance.

“The last time V/Line delivered a punctuality result this high was more than a decade ago, when it was carrying half as many passengers.”

“Regional passengers can look forward to further improvements when the new Regional Rail Link tracks and stations open, reducing delays and creating space for additional services.”

Mr Wild said that Metro and Yarra Trams also delivered good results in January.

“For 34 consecutive months, Metro has delivered more than 90 per cent of services on-time. Last month, Metro achieved its best January results in a decade, while also operating full timetables rather than a reduced summer timetable.”

“January saw Yarra Trams deliver more than 83 per cent of services on-time, while they were also providing extra services to the Australian Open tennis and the soccer, constructing an accessible tram stop at Batman Park, and operating busy trams following the introduction of the Free Tram Zone.”

Mr Wild said Public Transport Victoria would work with transport operators to continue to improve performance and service for customers.

“We’re working to deliver improvements for our customers right across the state, with targeted maintenance work, new timetables, and the purchase of new trains and trams.”
