Public transport performance results released for February 2015

The latest public transport performance results have been released, reporting on reliability and punctuality figures for February.
- V/Line has delivered 90.7 per cent of services on-time in February
- Metro has delivered 92.3 per cent of services on-time
- Yarra Trams has delivered 78.9 per cent of services on-time
Public Transport CEO Mark Wild said the results showed consistency from train operators.
“After a period of improved results, it’s great that these improved performance levels have been maintained across our rail network,” Mr Wild said.
“With services running on-time more often, customers can enjoy the stability and reliability of knowing they have services that will get them where they need to go.”
Mr Wild said that both Metro and V/Line delivered good results.
“For 35 consecutive months, Metro has delivered more than 90 per cent of services on-time.”
“V/Line has maintained its improved performance, delivering more than 90 per cent of services on-time for the fourth month in a row,” Mr Wild said.
“In particular, last month saw a significant improvement on the Warrnambool line, with 92.4 per cent of Warrnambool trains on time, up from 83.6 per cent in January, and the best result on that line in more than a year.”
Mr Wild said the opening of new Regional Rail Link tracks in June would assist further improvements for V/Line passengers.
“Ballarat and Bendigo line customers have experienced improved service punctuality and reliability since they started using new Regional Rail Link tracks between Sunshine and the city.”
“Geelong and Warrnambool passengers can look forward to further improvements when the remaining sections of Regional Rail Link open in June, meaning they will have dedicated V/Line tracks and will no longer get stuck behind Metro trains.”
Mr Wild said Public Transport Victoria would work with transport operators to continue to improve performance and service for customers.
“While 57 Metro services skipped stops in February, positive progress has been made in reducing the practice, with services that skip stops historically representing around 0.5% of Metro’s daily timetable.
“In February, the percentage of services skipped reduced to 0.1%, or an average of 2 per day.
“We’re working to deliver improvements for our customers right across the state, with targeted maintenance work, new timetables, and the purchase of new trains and trams.”
