New bus lanes and timetables for Victoria Parade
14 Sep 2015
From 20 September Victoria Parade will have new dedicated bus lanes and bus timetables, Public Transport Victoria (PTV) Director Performance and Contract Management Jeroen Weimar and Transdev Managing Director Harry Wijers announced today.
“The upgrading of the bus lanes on Victoria Parade by VicRoads involves new dedicated bus lanes, improved cycling and pedestrian connections and upgraded bus stops,” Mr Weimar said.
Updated timetables were due to come in to effect from Sunday 23 August but were delayed to ensure the data required for real-time bus information was accurate for our customers.
Transdev’s Mr Wijers said that from 20 September timetable changes will be applied to routes 302, 303, 304, 305, 309, 318, 350, 905, 906, 907 and 908 as part of the Victoria Parade bus upgrade.
“To support the Victoria Parade Bus Upgrade, timetables for buses that travel along the new bus lanes needed to be updated.
“Bus services will now move more smoothly and reliably through the Victoria Parade section of their journey where they will have full priority, in both directions, 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” Mr Wijers said.
PTV’s Mr Weimar said, that as well as creating the bus lanes, bus stops along Victoria Parade have been upgraded making them safer and more accessible for all members of the community.
“Stops at St Vincent’s Hospital, previously only serviced by the 402 will now be serviced by more routes,” Mr Weimar said.
To accommodate the new bus lanes there will be a very small change to the existing route.
Buses will no longer travel along Albert or Gisborne Streets, they will travel along Spring Street.
“Having buses use Spring Street to connect with Victoria Parade means an additional 11 bus routes will service the St Vincent’s Hospital bus stops,” Mr Weimar said.
Mr Wijers said that as well as updating the timetable, Transdev has taken this opportunity to make a few other small changes.
“The recently added 303 stop at Doncaster Park & Ride will now be a permanent stop and we are slightly adjusting the afternoon timetables for routes 282, 364 and 380 to better meet the needs of schools.
