January performance results published

09 Feb 2016

Public Transport Victoria today published performance results for January 2016, showing Metro has achieved performance targets for 46 consecutive months, with 92 per cent of services on time.

  • Metro delivered 92 per cent of services on time in January
  • V/Line delivered 80.3 per cent of services on time in January
  • Yarra Trams delivered 87.5 per cent of services on time in January

Public Transport Victoria Acting Executive Director, Performance and Contract, Warwick Horsley said results were positive for metropolitan customers, especially considering major summer works were conducted through the month.

“We greatly appreciate the patience of our customers during January as we made a number of significant improvements to the metropolitan network, including the removal of several level crossings,” Mr Horsley said.

Metro delivered its 46th consecutive month of more than 90 per cent of services on time, averaging 92.4 per cent over the last 12 months.

“Metro’s new extreme heat strategy has played a part in better managing the application of heat speed restrictions so far this summer, which has ensured a better customer experience on the metropolitan network,” Mr Horsley said.

Mr Horsley said V/Line’s overall delivery and on time performance for January had been affected by a number of factors including increased wheel wear on VLocity trains.

“V/Line is working to reduce the level of wheel wear back to a manageable level, through a series of mitigating actions, including additional greasing and speed restrictions,” Mr Horsley said.

“We acknowledge that this must be frustrating for our regional passengers and apologise for the inconvenience they are experiencing.

“Free travel will continue for V/Line customers travelling on a train replacement coach during this period.”

Yarra Trams’ performance increased this month with 87.5 per cent of services running on time, despite a number of infrastructure and improvement projects being conducted.

“To see on time performance for Yarra Trams increase while key projects and improvements including the Moonee Ponds Junction and Burke Road Level Crossing Removal were conducted is a great result,” Mr Horsley said.

The January performance results are now available at Track Record.
