February performance results published

09 Mar 2016

Public Transport Victoria today published performance results for February 2016, notably showing a year-on-year improvement in the punctuality of Yarra Trams services.

  • Metro delivered 91.2 per cent of services on time in February
  • V/Line delivered 83.2 per cent of services on time in February
  • Yarra Trams delivered 81.9 per cent of services on time in February

Public Transport Victoria Acting Executive Director, Performance and Contract, Warwick Horsley said Yarra Trams’ punctuality was higher than the same time last year (78.9 per cent).

“Even with traffic returning to Melbourne’s roads after the holiday break, punctuality on trams has improved year-on-year. Major tram infrastructure projects, including new platforms at Moonee Ponds Junction and Clarendon Street Junction near Crown Casino, will help us deliver a better service for our passengers, ” Mr Horsley said.

Metro’s punctuality decreased slightly in February, following fires at Somerville and Strathmore.

“The significant damage caused by the fires on the Stony Point line saw buses replacing trains from Stony Point to Frankston as Metro replaced 300 sleepers on the track and repaired some signalling equipment,” Mr Horsley said.

The results show an improvement in V/Line’s performance as work to reduce wheel wear, accelerate maintenance and fix boom-gate detection issues continues.

“Restoring the majority of V/Line services from 21 March is a big step towards delivering the service regional passengers deserve. Maintenance crews are working around the clock to return trains to the network as quickly as possible,” Mr Horsley said.

The February performance results are now available at Track Record.
