February 2018 performance results published
09 Mar 2018
Public Transport Victoria (PTV) today published performance results for February 2018.
- Metro delivered 91.8 per cent of services on-time in February.
- Yarra Trams delivered 81.7 per cent of services on-time in February.
- V/Line delivered 82.7 per cent of services on-time in February.
PTV CEO Jeroen Weimar said both Metro and Yarra Trams narrowly missed their new targets for punctuality in February, but met their targets for reliability.
“Under their previous contracts, our train and tram operators would have exceeded their punctuality targets but in the new contracts we raised the bar to ensure they are pushed to deliver a better travel experience for passengers.”
The new contracts with Metro Trains and Yarra Trams came into force 31 November 2017 and, as well as stronger performance targets, include a greater focus on improving passengers’ experience across the network.
“These tougher contracts have been designed to drive Yarra Trams and Metro to keep improving,” said Mr Weimar.
Metro’s result of 91.8 per cent of train services running on time was narrowly short of the new 92 per cent punctuality target, but significantly exceeds the 88 percent benchmark under the former contract.
At 81.7 per cent, Yarra Trams also fell just below their punctuality target of 82 per cent but exceeded the 77 per cent target in the previous contract. At 98.7, reliability was the highest since July last year.
On the regional network, V/Line saw 82.7 percent per cent of services running on time, a 2.5 per cent increase on the January figure. Reliability also increased two percentage points to 96.3 per cent, exceeding the reliability target.
“With fewer heat restrictions, both punctuality and reliability improved on most regional lines in February,” said Mr Weimar.
“Longer term, significant investment in the regional network will see major upgrades and improvements across the state which will help cater for the increasing patronage growth, now and into the future.”
