10 Sep 2018

Public Transport Victoria today published performance results for August 2018.

  • Metro delivered 91.6 per cent of services on-time in August.
  • Yarra Trams delivered 84.8 per cent of services on-time in August.
  • V/Line delivered 86.9 per cent of services on-time in August.

PTV CEO Jeroen Weimar said August was an important month for the network with the opening of the Mernda Rail Extension and the introduction of a new metropolitan train timetable, adding 190 new metropolitan train services every week and hundreds of extended services across Melbourne’s north, west and south east.

“We’re continuing to expand the number of services we offer,” said Mr Weimar.

“With the official opening of the Mernda line extension, passengers using the new Hawkstowe, Middle Gorge and Mernda stations now have access to 982 services to the city every week."

Network performance in August showed an overall improvement for regional train services while punctuality on both the metropolitan train and tram networks matched the same period in 2017 whilst delivering more services.

“On other parts of the network, the expanded metropolitan train timetable sees new and extended services added to the Hurstbridge, Werribee, Cranbourne and Pakenham lines, giving Melburnians greater options for when they travel.”

In August, Yarra Trams exceeded their punctuality target of 82 per cent, for a third consecutive month with 84.8 per cent of trams arriving on-time. At 98.9 per cent, they also delivered above their 98.5 per cent reliability target for an eighth successive month.

Metro Trains’ punctuality result of 91.6 per cent was just below on-time performance target of 92 per cent, whilst reliability matched their 98.5 per cent.

“August also saw a major construction blitz across the network, with a significant focus along the Pakenham and Cranbourne rail lines, as we work hard to improve infrastructure and reliability along this busy corridor,” Mr Weimar said.

On the regional network, V/Line delivered its the highest punctuality result in 10 months, with 86.9 per cent of services arriving on time, up 1.7 per cent on the same month in 2017.

Reliability was also up to 96.8 per cent, V/Line’s highest reliability result since May, with performance improved or maintained on nine of the 12 regional lines.

“We’re ensuring we continue to deliver reliable services for our regional commuters while pushing to improve punctuality to the levels our passengers deserve,” said Mr Weimar.

August performance results are available on the PTV website at Operational Performance.
