Free travel during December construction blitz

05 Nov 2018

Passengers on the Cranbourne, Pakenham and Gippsland lines catching replacement services will receive free travel in December recognising the ongoing planned disruption over the past 12 months.

The free travel will apply during construction works taking place on the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines from 1 to 23 December in preparation for the new fleet of High Capacity Metro Trains which will be able to carry 20 per cent more passengers than any train currently running on the network.

Passengers impacted by the works will travel for free on replacement buses and coaches during the December works, with metropolitan tokens or V/Line tickets issued for free onward travel across Zones 1 and 2.

Passengers travelling on the Traralgon line between 1 and 23 December will travel for free and do not need to use their myki to travel on a replacement coach.

Traralgon line passengers continuing their journey on metropolitan services or town buses in the Gippsland region will receive a V/Line paper ticket giving them free onward travel in Zones 1 and 2 on the metropolitan network.

Bairnsdale line passengers will also receive free travel on replacement coaches and are asked to book a seat for these services in advance, through the normal reservations process.

Both the V/Line paper tickets and metropolitan tokens will be accepted by station staff and Authorised Officers as a valid ticket for travel on the metropolitan network in Zones 1 and 2 across trains, trams and buses at all times of the day during these disruption dates.

Passengers travelling with weekly or monthly myki passes are encouraged to consider the free travel period before purchasing or activating their pass to take advantage of the free travel. Passengers travelling on active myki passes will be able to claim a refund for their days of free travel.

Public Transport Victoria CEO Jeroen Weimar said that free travel recognised the unprecedented disruption passengers on these corridors had been experiencing during a year of upgrade works.

“We thank everyone for their ongoing patience as we continue this important upgrade work”, said Mr Weimar.
