A first for PTV as it publicly releases its real time Timetable API

28 May 2015

Today PTV makes available its Timetable API with some significant improvements on last year’s release. For the first time, it now includes real time tram, disruption and real time bus information.

The real time bus information includes the following routes which will continue to grow as the phased roll out progresses:

SmartBus services: Routes 703, 900-903 and 905-908.

Routes: 200, 207, 215, 216, 219, 220, 223, 232, 234, 235, 236, 237, 246, 250, 251, 270, 271, 273, 279, 280, 281, 282, 284, 285, 293, 295, 302, 303, 304, 305, 309, 318, 350, 364, 370, 380, 600, 922 and 923.

All available real time information can be accessed via the PTV mobile apps and on the PTV website.

This represents a big shift in the depth of data PTV now makes available, with a total of 13 API datasets and one GTFS dataset available via the DataVic website.

The data will enable developers to create digital products that can benefit all users of public transport.

To coincide with this release PTV is also supporting an event aimed at the digital development community, VicTripathon. For more information, visit
