Flinders Street Station security upgrade

26 Nov 2018

Permanent bollards are being installed at Flinders Street Station to add to the current safety and security measures at Melbourne’s busiest train station.

An extra 130 square metres of public space will be added under the famous Flinders Street clocks in addition to the installation of a total of 55 stainless steel bollards to assure our passengers and visitors of their safety when travelling on the network.

The Flinders Street Station to Federation Square pedestrian crossing will be temporarily closed while works take place. Alternative crossings are available for you to get to Federation Square and the Swanston Street tram stop.

The pedestrian crossing between the station and Young & Jackson pub will also be extended by three metres as part of the works. This is one of the city’s busiest intersections with more than 25,000 people crossing here during peak hour every day.

The first stage of works was completed in December last year with 35 bollards installed. The remaining stages are taking place between January and March this year, mostly during the night to help minimise disruption.
