Winter construction blitz on roads and public transport in July
05 Jun 2019
Melbourne and Victoria are growing fast, and to keep people moving, we are expanding and modernising the transport network to make travel easier. This involves some disruption to the network, timed to coincide with the winter school holiday period to cause the least impact for passengers.
These works will deliver the biggest ever upgrade of power, signalling and communications to Melbourne’s train network in preparation for the Metro Tunnel, paving the way for more trains, more often across the network. Works also continue to remove level crossings and upgrade regional train lines. To find out more about Victoria’s major road and rail projects, visit Victoria’s Big Build.
We also expect that roads will be busier than usual during this time. Delays are expected on the Monash Freeway, Nepean Highway and Princes Highway. For information on changes to traffic and roadworks, visit VicRoads.
Before travelling, plan ahead and allow more time for your journey. Avoid the peak if you can and consider alternatives. For travel tips, see Tips to help you plan ahead during the winter construction blitz.
