Department of Transport releases strategic plan

15 Aug 2019

The new Department of Transport has released its strategic plan for the next four years, setting out the priorities for transport in Victoria.

Victoria is growing faster than any other state or territory. In fact, our growth is among the highest in the world.

By 2050, 10 million people will live in Victoria, and Melbourne will be a global city of 8 million.

Right now, people make 23.1 million trips a day in Victoria. By 2050, we will make 15.8 million more.

Most of these trips are within Melbourne, a city that is being redrawn by strong population growth in the CBD and even stronger growth in urban areas like Wyndham, Casey, Cardinia, Hume and the Mornington Peninsula.

Simple, Connected Journeys is the first strategic plan developed since VicRoads and PTV were integrated with the Department of Transport on 1 July 2019.

It sets out our vision, priorities and initiatives, from improving buses in growing suburbs, to making it easier to walk and cycle to destinations, and embracing new technology.

The plan is now available to download on the DoT website.
