Industrial action affecting metropolitan trams between 10am and 2pm on Thursday 26 September 2019
20 Sep 2019
Due to protected industrial action, metropolitan tram services will not operate between 10am and 2pm on Thursday 26 September 2019.
During this time, passengers are advised to plan ahead and consider alternative modes of transport.
Services are also expected to be significantly disrupted from 10am until approximately 3.30pm as the normal timetable is restored.
If you are travelling on a tram at 10am, drivers will request customers to get off at the nearest stop. This will enable trams to continue to the nearest depot.
A replacement bus service will run; however, this will be very limited and will not service all the tram network. Significant delays are expected for passengers using this service. Download the replacement bus map (PDF) 245 KB to find out where the buses will run. You can also download the Planned industrial action flyer (PDF) 494 KB for a summary of the replacement bus map with service frequency and how to get to key destinations.
Tram replacement buses are low-floor depending on availability, and will service all existing kerbside and safety zone tram stops along the bus route. At tram platform stops, buses will stop at the footpath nearby, or where possible. Please hail the bus when it is approaching. While on board, ensure you press the button for your stop with enough time to notify the driver.
Passengers are encouraged to defer all non-essential travel and consider alternative modes of transport during this period. Metropolitan trains, buses and V/Line trains will run as normal, however these services may be busier than usual.
For passengers travelling to the Royal Melbourne Show, express shuttle buses will run between Melbourne Central Station and Melbourne Showgrounds. Special train services are also running from Flinders Street Station to the Showgrounds.
Use our Journey planner to find train, bus and V/line options for your journey. To do this choose your departure point and destination, then click Journey preferences. Uncheck the tram option and click Apply. You will then be shown travel options that do not include trams.
