Bus Safety Week 2017
Added: 5 May 2017
PTV has emphasised the importance of safety around buses and hailed bus drivers as part of this year’s Bus Safety Week, delivered by Transport Safety Victoria and BusVic.
The campaign runs from May 1 to May 5 and aims to increase awareness of the good safety record of bus travel, which is one of the safest modes of transport.
Director of Bus Safety at Transport Safety Victoria, Stephen Turner, says that shared responsibility underpins the experience we all have around buses.
“Bus Safety Week is about everyone taking responsibility for bus safety. Whether they are a car driver, school kids or the elderly catching buses."
The week has included several activities and events, including bus driver appreciation day on Thursday, where passengers are encouraged to say “Hi” and “Thanks” to the driver.
As part of the week’s activities there has also been several promotional and educational events at multiple bus interchanges across metropolitan and regional areas in Victoria, as well as safety education sessions at schools across the state.
Multi Modal Authorised Officers have been on board buses on the network to promote and educate Bus Safety Week’s key messages.
There are more buses on the road than ever before, but with our collective commitment to put safety first for our customers, every week is Bus Safety Week at PTV.
