Changes to fares in August 2014
Added: 1 July 2014
Changes to two-hour fares will be introduced in August 2014.
Under the current system the two-hour period is rounded up to the nearest hour. For instance, if a customer touches on at 9.35 am, the fare expires at 12.00 pm.
The new two-hour fare will apply for exactly two-hours after a myki is touched on.
New two-hour fare
When the two-hour fare change is introduced, it will allow unlimited travel in the zone(s) for which it is valid until the expiry time.
If a customer touches on at 9.35 am, the two-hour fare will expire at 11.35 am.
If a customer touches on again before the expiry time, they can complete their trip and touch off at no extra cost.
Touching on after 6pm
Customers who touch on after 6pm will still have a valid fare until 3am the next morning.
Customers travelling on V/Line
Customers travelling long distances on V/Line will continue to be provided with additional time to complete their journey.
For journeys that cover 6 – 11 zones (ie. zone 1 to zone 9), customers will receive an additional one hour on their fare (a total of 3 hours)
For journeys that cover 12 – 13 zones (ie. zone 2 to zone 13) customers will receive an additional 2 hours (a total of 4 hours).
PTV is in the final stages of completing system requirements for this change which will be introduced in August 2014.
More information about when two-hour fares starts will be available in the future. Keep checking ptv.vic.gov.au for updates.
