Calculating your refund

Here's how we calculate refunds for myki Pass, Commuter Club and Victorian Student Passes.

myki Pass

Unused myki Pass

We’ll refund the full price of a valid unused myki Pass.

Partially used myki Pass

If you have a myki Pass that you’ve partially used, you can apply for a refund or convert the remaining value to myki Money. We’ll calculate your refund from the day you submit your application by deducting the fare for the time that’s already passed.

For example, if you buy and activate a 28-day Zone 1+2 myki Pass and apply for a refund or myki Money conversion on the tenth day: we'll

  • calculate how much it would have cost you to travel for those 10 days (a 7-day myki Pass fare plus three daily myki Money fares)
  • deduct this cost from the full cost of your original myki Pass.

You can convert the remaining value of your myki Pass to myki Money. The amount credited to myki Money must be $250 or less, and your total myki Money balance must be less than $1000 after converting.

Partially used myki Pass (annual)

We’ll refund an annual myki Pass if you used it for less than 325 days. This is because an annual myki Pass is discounted to give you 365 days travel for the price of 325.

For example, if you buy and activate a 365-day Zone 1+2 myki Pass and apply for a refund or myki Pass conversion on the 208th day, we’ll deduct the cost of a 208-day myki Pass from the full price of your original pass and refund you the difference.

There's more information on calculating your annual myki Pass refund in the Fares and Ticketing Manual, or call 1800 800 007.

Expired myki Pass

If your myki Pass is expired, we can’t give you a refund or a myki Money conversion.

Commuter Club myki Pass

We’ll refund an annual Commuter Club myki Pass if it’s been used for less than 293 days. That’s because an annual Commuter Club myki Pass is discounted to give you 365 days travel for the price of 293.

If you buy and activate a 365-day Zones 1–15 Commuter Club myki Pass and apply for a refund or myki Pass conversion on the 210th day of the pass, we’ll deduct the cost of a 210-day pass from the full cost of your original 365-day pass.

There's more information on calculating your Commuter Club myki Pass refund in the Fares and Ticketing Manual, or call 1800 800 007.

Victorian Student Pass

If you apply for a Victorian Student Pass refund before 31 July we’ll:

  • calculate the pro-rata amount you would have paid for travel between the date your pass was issued and the date you apply for a refund
  • deduct this amount from the full cost of your pass.

If you apply for a Victorian Student Pass refund after 31 July:

  • we’ll deduct the cost of a Half Year Student Pass from the cost of a Year Student Pass
  • calculate the pro-rata amount you would have paid for travel between the date your pass was issued and the date you applied for a refund
  • refund you the difference between these two amounts.
