Replace a ticket
You may need to replace your ticket if it has expired, been lost or stolen, or is damaged or defective.
Lost or stolen registered myki card
If your registered myki card is lost or stolen, you should report it to us as soon as possible. Your balance is protected from the time you tell us your card is lost or stolen.
You can report your registered myki card as lost or stolen by:
Once you have reported it, your card will be blocked and a replacement myki can be arranged.
Lost or stolen unregistered myki card
Anonymous myki cards, that have not been registered and are lost or stolen cannot be replaced.
You will need to buy a new myki card and load it with myki Money or a myki Pass to travel.
Lost or stolen Student pass
To receive an on the spot replacement, students must return to the location their Victorian Student Pass or PTV School Student ID was issued.
Online or phone replacements are not possible for student passes and concession cards.
Lost or stolen regional ticket (V/Line)
Only lost or stolen reserved V/Line paper tickets and Date-to-Date V/Line tickets can be replaced.
Lost or stolen reserved seating V/Line tickets can be replaced if reported before the day of travel at any staffed V/Line station on completion of a V/Line Refund Application Form.
A lost or stolen Date-to-Date ticket may be replaced with a duplicate ticket at the issuing V/Line station on completion of a V/Line Refund Application Form.
Damaged or defective myki cards can be replaced on the spot, online or by calling us.
If your damaged or defective myki card cannot be read by our equipment, the transfer of any remaining balance from this card to a new myki card will not be immediate:
- the transfer of any remaining myki Pass from your original myki card to your new myki card will take up to 36 hours.
- the transfer of any remaining myki Money from your original myki card to your new myki card will take up to 7 days.
In this instance, you will still receive a replacement myki on the spot, and the myki Pass and/or myki Money will be loaded on by our system.
To travel immediately, you will need to top up your new myki card with myki Money or a myki Pass to ensure you are travelling with a valid ticket.
Regional (V/Line) paper tickets can become invalid due to:
- heat damage
- water damage
- being bent, punched through, torn, cut or chewed
- being covered in dirt or other foreign substance
- damage that exceeds normal wear and tear.
To replace your ticket, take it to the ticket office at any staffed V/Line station.
You will need to complete a V/Line Refund Application Form and the station that issued the ticket must be able to be identified.
All myki cards expire after 4 years.
If your myki has expired, or is due to expire in 60 days you can get an on the spot replacement.
Your expired card will be linked to the replacement card and any balance will be transferred instantly and the myki ready to use straight away.
If your expired myki is registered, your replacement myki will also be automatically registered.
If you had auto top up on your old myki, this service will not be transferred to your replacement myki. To continue to travel using auto top up, you will need to set up auto top up again.
You can find out when your myki card is due to expire by registering your card, or using a myki machine.

On the spot myki replacement
The easiest way to replace your myki card is ‘on the spot’ at a:
Online and phone myki replacement
If you are unable to get an on the spot replacement you can apply for a replacement myki online or by calling PTV.
You will need to send in the myki if it is defective/damaged.
Timeframe for receiving your replacement card
Once we have received your request and the damaged/defective myki card, we will process your request.
You will receive a new myki card within 10 business days, preloaded with any remaining balance from your original myki card.
To travel immediately, you will need buy and top up a new myki card with myki Money or a myki Pass to ensure you are travelling with a valid ticket.
