Mid-June 2022 to July 2023

The Victorian Government is delivering major upgrades to the City Loop to improve the management of emergency situations at Parliament, Melbourne Central and Flagstaff stations. These works will involve the installation of modern smoke detection, extraction, and sprinkler systems at these three stations.

From mid-June 2022, works will start to establish site compounds and offices will start at the following locations:

  • Site office at 280 King Street, Melbourne
  • Site compound at the Royal Mint
  • Site compound at Flagstaff Gardens 

The office and site compounds will be used from mid-June 2022 to July 2023 to provide essential amenities for construction workers, project engineers and support staff.

Works taking place

From mid June 2022 activities to establish the sites will include:

  • Site establishment activities including installing site sheds, laydown area for construction equipment and installing amenities for construction workers
  • Temporary fencing installed around the site, with pedestrian access maintained
  • A generator within each site compound to power the sites until September 2022.

Works will take place during normal construction hours, between 7am and 6pm Monday to Friday, and 7am and 1pm Saturdays

When works are required outside of normal construction hours, we will be in touch with affected traders and residents.

What to expect

From mid June 2022 activities to establish the sites will include:

  • Traffic management will be in place to ensure the safety of road users and pedestrians during works
  • Construction workers, vehicles, machinery, equipment, and lighting on site
  • Noise from the generator within each site compound until September 2022 between the hours of 7am and 6pm Monday to Friday, and 7am and 1pm Saturdays
  • When works are required outside of normal construction hours, we will be in touch with affected traders and residents
  • Noise from machinery, such as excavators at various times during construction hours

Changes to parking

Car parks at the Royal Mint will be utilised for the site compound:

  • 31 paid public car parks will be unavailable from June 2022 until September 2022
  • From September 2022, an additional nine paid public car parks will be unavailable until April 2023
  • Temporary fencing will be placed around these car parks
