Disruptions during Round 1 of the 2024 AFL season: Friday 15 March to Sunday 17 March 2024

There are disruptions to the public transport and road network during Round 1 of the 2024 AFL season. Plan ahead and using our Journey planner and view the disruptions below for more information.

Metropolitan train icon Metropolitan train disruptions

  • Belgrave Line – Buses replace trains between Ringwood and Belgrave from 8:30pm Thursday 14 March to 9pm Tuesday 19 March due to LXRP works.
  • Pakenham Line – Buses replace trains between Dandenong and Pakenham from 9:30pm Friday 15 March to last service Sunday 17 March due to LXRP works.
  • Sandringham Line – Buses replace trains between South Yarra and Sandringham from 12:15am Saturday 16 March to last service Sunday 17 March due to MTM works.

Regional Trains V/Line disruptions

  • Seymour Line – Coaches replace trains for the entire journey from Saturday 9 March to Sunday 24 March due to V/Line maintenance and infrastructure upgrade works.
  • Gippsland Line – Coaches replaces trains between Southern Cross and Pakenham on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 March.
  • Shepparton Line – Coaches will replace trains between Shepparton and Southern Cross from Saturday 9 March to Sunday 24 March.

Metro Trams Metropolitan tram disruptions

  • Route 6 and 16 service changes with bus replacements from first tram Saturday 16 March to last tram Sunday 17 March due to Glenferrie Road and High Street overhead works.
  • Routes 11, 12, 30, 35 (City Circle), 48, 58, 70, 75, 86, 96, and 109 tram service changes due to road closures between 2am and 6.30pm Sunday 17 March.

Roads icon Road disruptions

  • Flinders Lane, Melbourne is closed between Swanston and Elizabeth streets from 12 March until 5pm Friday 15 March.
  • Domain Tunnel is closed from 10pm Saturday 16 March through to 12:30pm Sunday 17 March. Inbound entry ramps to the Monash Freeway/CityLink from Burke Road, Toorak Road and Gibdon Street will close to reduce congestion on the approach to the Domain Tunnel.
  • From 5am Sunday 17 March there will be citybound closures on the Bolte Bridge, a full closure of the West Gate Freeway outbound between the Domain Tunnel and Bolte Bridge, and inbound exit closures at Kings Way and Montague Street. All roads will reopen by 2:30pm Sunday 17 March.
  • From Saturday 10pm there will be closures around Kings Domain, Southbank, Docklands and the CBD. All roads will reopen by 2:30pm Sunday 17 March.
  • There will be closures and restrictions Alexandra Avenue, Clarendon Street, Spencer Street and Footscray Road on Sunday 17 March until 2:30pm. 
  • Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road, Cranbourne is closed between Berwick-Cranbourne Road/Sladen Street and New Holland Drive until mid-2024.
  • Bedford Road, Ringwood is closed at the level crossing between Pitt Street and Rosewarne Lane until April. No access to Great Ryrie Street from Bedford Road during this time.
  • Camms Road, Cranbourne is closed at Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road until early June.
  • M80 Ring Road (Altona-bound) inbound ramp to the Princes Freeway (Geelong-bound) continuously closed from 10pm Friday 15 March until 5am Monday 17 March
  • Footscray Road lane closures in both directions between Shepherd Bridge and Waterfront Way continuously throughout the weekend
  • Wurundjeri Way southbound from Dudley Street to Bourke Street closed overnight on Friday 15 March and Saturday 16 March, between 8pm and 5am each night
  • Kororoit Creek Road outbound exit ramp from the Princes Freeway closed overnight on Friday 15 March and Saturday 16 March, between 10pm and 5am each night
  • Williamstown Road inbound exit ramp from the West Gate Freeway closed overnight on Friday 15 March and Saturday 16 March, between 9pm and 5am each night
  • No right turn from Footscray Road inbound exit ramp from CityLink continuously throughout the weekend
  • Dynon Road outbound entry ramp to CityLink closed overnight on Friday 15 March, between 8pm and 5am
  • No right turn from Dynon Road inbound exit ramp from CityLink overnight on Friday 15 March, between 8pm and 5am
