City Loop Upgrades – Stage 2 works

City Loop Upgrades

Planned disruptions

City Loop Upgrades

The Victorian Government is delivering major upgrades to the City Loop to improve the management of emergency situations at Parliament, Melbourne Central and Flagstaff stations.

Stage 2 of major upgrades to the City Loop involve the installation of modern smoke detection, extraction, and sprinkler systems at these three stations.

On-site works commenced in mid-2022.

If you have any questions about the project, please email [email protected] or call 1800 105 105.

City Loop temporary closure

To safely carry out major upgrades to the City Loop, a two-week closure will take place from 9pm on Monday 2 January to last service Sunday 15 January 2023. No trains will run in the City Loop, and Flagstaff, Melbourne Central and Parliament stations will be closed.

Southern Cross and Flinders Street stations will remain open, with trains running to and between these stations.

Passengers whose usual destinations are Parliament, Melbourne Central or Flagstaff stations can complete their journey from Flinders Street or Southern Cross by walking or by tram.

We are encouraging people to walk the rest of their journey if they can, with most distances in the CBD only a 10 to 15-minute walk from Southern Cross and Flinders Street stations.

If you have any questions about the project, please email [email protected] or call 1800 105 105.
