Ferries

We oversee three ferry services that operate in Victoria:

  • Western Port Ferry, a ferry service which runs from Stony Point to French Island and Phillip Island (formerly known as the French Island Ferry)
  • Westgate Punt, a ferry service that runs between Spotswood Jetty and Westgate Landing in Port Melbourne.
  • Port Phillip Ferries, two passenger ferry services that run between Melbourne, Geelong and Portarlington on the Bellarine Peninsula.

Ferry iconWestern Port Ferry

Stony Point to French Island and Phillip Island

The Western Port Ferry service (previously known as the French Island Ferry) runs between Stony Point on the Mornington Peninsula and Cowes on Phillip Island, via French Island.

The ferry arrival and departure locations are:

Stony Point

  • Stony Point Pier 1, Stony Point Road, Crib Point (Stony Point Station is a short walk from the Stony Point Pier)
  • Tankerton Pier, Tankerton Road, French Island
  • Cowes Pier, The Esplanade, Cowes, Phillip Island

Ferry icon Westgate Punt

The Westgate Punt is a ferry service that runs between Spotswood Jetty and Westgate Landing in Port Melbourne.

The service provides pedestrians and cyclists with an easy and stress-free way to get across the Yarra River without travelling via the West Gate Bridge.  

Cyclists can even take their bikes on board the ferry and make full use of popular cycling paths that run from Port Melbourne into the city.

Spotswood Jetty is located on Douglas Parade, near the corner of Craig Street, and is a short walk from Spotswood Station.

Westgate Landing is located on Lorimer Street, near the corner of Sardine Street. Bus Route 237 stops nearby on Lorimer Street and runs into the city.

The fare is $3 one way on weekdays and $5 each way on weekends.

The Westgate Punt is not a myki-ticketed service.

The Westgate Punt does not operate on Christmas Day, Boxing Day or Good Friday.

Port Phillip Ferries runs two passenger ferry services between:

  • Geelong and Melbourne, and
  • Portarlington and Melbourne
  • Portarlington and Geelong

Each ferry has an on-board licensed café, free Wi-Fi, bike racks and charging stations.

The ferry arrival and departure locations are:

Geelong

  • Geelong Waterfront, beside The Carousel - 1 Eastern Beach Road, Geelong

Portarlington

  • Portarlington Pier, - a three-minute walk from Newcombe Street, Portarlington

Melbourne

  • Victoria Harbour Promenade - 131 Harbour Esplanade, Docklands - directly across the street from Marvel Stadium
